MY BOYFRIEND’S SHIRT

It’s no secret that I love a white button up shirt. It can be crisp and structured. It can be flowy and soft…depending on how you wear it.
I love it even more when it’s my boyfriend’s shirt that I gave him as an anniversary gift, with his initials hand embroidered by me on the left pocket area. (UN)luckily, it’s too small for him, so I get to wear it. No. Shame. At. All.
I decided to go for the more crisp and structured look, tucking Pierre’s shirt into my favourite denims and securing it place with a solid belt. I just added a red lippy and a sleek ponytail and I was set for the day. It was a great outfit for a busy day in the city, taking care of admin and interviews. I felt just as fresh at dinner as I did at breakfast and I credit it all to this button up shirt.

I first discovered how great a white button up is when I was waitressing part-time while studying, a Toughees school shirt being my uniform shirt. One day I had no other clean shirts in my closet, which I actually wanted to wear, and since I had a shift in the afternoon, I sommer wore my work shirt to class with a nice pair of skinnies. I was hooked.
So, obviously you get nicer quality, but buying a school shirt from Pep or Ackermans would cost you around R100 and it’s the whitest white on the market. Great for a tight budget and if you hand wash it (and don’t spill coffee on it every day), it will last you longer than you will expect.

So my (Pierre’s) shirt is from Trenery (Pep wouldn’t have cut it as an anniversary gift I guess ) and my belt is Country Road (see them here). Old trustworthy platform shoes from Superga.
You will never guess where my jeans are from though ;). (If you suck at the guessing game, see them here)
Also, if you need a lipstick that doesn’t come off ALL DAY, Revlon ColourStay is the shit. I have once even slept with it and wore it to brunch the next morning. I need to mention that I was a student and had to budget, so wearing one coat of lipstick for two days was just being economical.
I actually bought me a couple of Toughees school shirts and will be customising and embroidering them. I’ll post them on the blog as soon as I have finished them!
