I do this thing –
I take old clothes and I cut them, stitch them and embroider them. Basically, giving it new life, changing it completely into something different and, well, one-of-a-kind.
I have done this with many of my dad’s shirts that he throws out, but then I normally have to embroider a flower to cover up a stain.
I use men’s shirts and tee shirts. It gives me space to cut and alter like I need to (women’s shirts are already too fitted) and I love a longer sleeve. There’s just something about combining masculine look with feminine details.
So, this time I bought a couple of plain black and white men’s tee shirts from Makro for a ridiculously cheap price and now I am making me some custom cropped tee shirts. And I don’t mean TOO cropped, like just covering the essentials. I mean that it sits right on the belt-part (is there another word for it?) of my jean, so you get this sleek look, without having to tuck in and wrinkle your shirt.
I basically cut the tee shirt a little shorter and adding a small slit on bit sides of the shirt (I would’ve said this is for comfort, but I would be lying. Actually, I just think it looks cool). I left the sleeves as they are, and I hand embroidered the words “Act Like Summer” – inspired from the song Drops of Jupiter.
I really like Act Like Summer. Summer is just the best thing and if I can be like summer, I would be happy. Even though it’s embroidered on a black shirt (which is obv the opposite of summer), I feel like sunshine wearing it! I like to think it’s a small self-fulfilling prophecy.
Only after I spent quite a while stitching these words smack bam on the front of my shirt, did I realise that they are pretty skew… Oh, well. I came up with a solution for next time, but this shirt will just have to stay imperfect.
I am gathering so much inspo everywhere for some cool customs.
Let me know if you would like one, I’ll make it ‘specially for you xxx
(and guys if there are any of you here – if you are, thanks. That’s cool of you. You know what’s also pretty cool? A custom tee for your girl for her birthday/anniversary/graduation/promotion/just because she’s great. You know where to get one.)
